A proposal we forwarded to the Dun Laoghaire shopping centre management May 2013. We took some photos of that great hulking building in the centre of Dun Laoghaire town and created some simple renders showing how the centre could look with a painted treatment. Realistically, a cladding in a sandstone or similar material could create the best look but with cost considered, painting seemed like a more economical approach – Instantly such an upgrade would make the building far more appealing to the area. The idea was conceived upon consideration of the current 39 empty units in the centre and coupled with the 101 empty units on the main street. We wanted to show how a simple change could transform the aspect and presence of the building in its prime location in the town and could effect and encourage new interest and investment in the centre and town. Adding value would be key and changing the local peoples visual perception of the centre is a challenge. But investment on such projects can give the perception that people involved are active and things are progressing as opposed to remaining stagnant and depressed.
